In Memory

Wayne Karl Woodland

"Woody" Woodland worked for nearly two years at Lutheran Church Supply on
Queen Lane in East Falls after he graduated in June 1967 from Olney High
School. A fellow employee remembers him as "liked by everyone in the
office." The private first class, a clerk assigned to Headquarters and
Headquarters Company of the 1st Air Cavalry Division (Airmobile), died in
Vietnam on February 8, 1970, six days after his 20th birthday. Survivors
included his father, who was a 24-year Navy veteran, his mother and a
sister.

Wayne and I went to the same church - St. Paul's at 5th & Nedro.  I knew him from Sunday School from about the age of four.  He was so much fun.  He had so many friends when we were in high school that it was more like an entourage.  He had a really sharp looking car then.  My friend Donna Sands and I called him "Notes" because he was in our art class and was always passing us notes.  A few years later, I was really upset when I learned in church that Wayne had died in Vietnam.  As if that wasn't bad enough, his death apparently caused his father to have a fatal heart attack - it was announced in church one Sunday.  I'll never forget him - he was so likeable and I know he's been really missed.  RIP Wayne.  Kathy Wells

Rest in Peace, Warrior... Hero... Friend!!!

I believe Wayne is our class's only fatality of Viet Nam.  We also lost Wayne Risner , class of '66 We were lucky! Philadelphia's  next high school over  "Simon Gratz"  on Hunting Park Ave. had the distinction of having the highest death count of any high school in the entire country.

May we never forget these young heroes. It is their memory that I ride with The Patriot Guard! Never again will an American GI come home to the welcome we received!

~TELL THEM OF US AND SAY...FOR THEIR TOMORROWS...WE GAVE OUR TODAY.~

ALL GAVE SOME, SOME GAVE ALL!
