Deceased Name: Yardley

James J. McDermott passed away Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2010, in the Villages, Fla., where he resided after teaching in Philadelphia. He was 61. He is survived by his wife, Anne; a sister, Dolores Geoghan (Thomas); niece Jessica Geoghan; his children, Donna Lutz, Lisa Lloyd (Robert) and David Norwood (Linda); and grandchildren Jeannie Lutz, Michelle Westerman (Michael), Scott Lutz, Miriel Rodriguez, David Bryan Norwood, and Jamie and Stephanie Lloyd. He also is survived by his great-grandchildren, Briana and Brielle Nusser, Jacob, Zachary, Nicholaus and Isaac Westerman, Gianna Stanley, Tristen Paull and Julissa Ghaul; numerous devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers and sisters-in-law. Jimmy, a 4th degree Knight of Columbus, Past Grand Commander of the Order of Alhambra, was a man who knew how to celebrate life and live it to the fullest. Jim, Uncle Jimmy or Pop-Pop, as he was known by the family, will be sorely missed. A remarkable son, brother, husband, father, uncle, grandfather and great-grandfather, you would always find Jimmy in the center of the fun; he was cooking, shopping, working, fixing he did it all and with the greatest enthusiasm. Jimmy was known to those closest to him as the man with the biggest heart, the loudest voice, the sharpest wit and the most tools. He had the most generous soul of anyone ever. Friends and family alike, could always count on Jimmy to help out and to be there when you needed him. As an uncle or Pop-Pop, every one of his 28 nieces, nephews, grands and great-grands looked forward to spending time with him. The kids will say, "You've never been to Wildwood until you been to the boardwalk with him. The sky's the limit." There will never be another like him. As a brother-in-law, he was always the one pitching in and helping out. He would never say, "I don't have time." It was always "Let's do it." Jim was adventurous. He loved to get a gang together and travel anywhere for the good food, drink and camaraderie. As a husband to Anne, he was always a steadfast model of single-minded loyalty. Once Anne came along, he would say, "There will never be anyone else" and adding with a wink, "I can't afford anyone else now." Legendary are his famous quotes like, "What's hot?", "Oh wow!", and observations about life in general. Jimmy would say "How much is that gonna cost me?" but if you were with Jimmy, he would never let you pay for anything. He truly believed, "It's only money." We love you Jimmy, we will always keep you in our hearts, as we know you will be keeping watch over us. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 18, at Queen of the Universe Church, 2443 Trenton Road, Levittown. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to our favorite charity, Chandler Hall Hospice, Newtown, PA 18940.
