A true friend is someone who, even though you may not see or speak with them for years, picks up the conversation and good feelings right where you left them off the last time.... George was one of those special friends to me.
Back in the 60's when the music scene was exploding, a bunch of us Olney boys decided to follow in the footsteps of our heroes, and some of us who aspired to be the "Next Beatles" actually found enough talent in ourselves to learn how to play the guitar, and yes, carry a tune vocally. Even though we formed separate bands with other friends, George, Ed Preman, Billy Buckman, and I bonded as the guitar-playing Olney Guys, who would eventually get together and form our own band of brothers, and along with Dennis Reilly, rocked the house at a few assembly programs; experiences that permanantly bonded our friendship - so much so that we were able to put our band together again for our 45th reunion, which was truly an amazing experience.
It's been made that much more special now that we have realized that it was the last time the five of us would do it. God willing, we'll do it again at the 50th, and George will be with us in spirit.
George was truly a special guy; passionate about music, politics, friendship, and especially....humor! He could light up a room with his effervescent personality, and his laughter was one-of-a-kind; I would laugh just hearing him laugh. Jeanne and I got together with George and Cindy a few times over the years for Keswick Theatre concerts, and it was always fun, and special. I'm happy to have known such a character, buddy, and dear friend.
Rest in Peace, my dear pal. I look forward to our next reunion.
